This historical enquiry uses the case study of Matthew Hopkins to evaluate some sloppy work by school text book historians. Starting with a quote from a Key Stage 3 textbook, your students will use a variety of historical sources to answer the question: Was England really hit by a witch craze in the 17th century?
Once they have looked at the evidence, in the form of drip fed clues, they will soon see that the picture is more complex than we are led to believe.
The end product gets your class to write to our historians explaining what the issues are with their interpretation.
