At risk of simplification, puritans could be a joyless lot. Not so in this enquiry.
Beginning with a ‘Mr and Mrs ‘style recap of puritan beliefs, your students quickly begin to evaluate the level of challenge the puritans posed to Elizabeth and her Religious Settlement.
After a post-it relay to encourage careful reading, your students select relevant evidence and deploy this on both sides of the argument.
Next, they then refine their thinking and consider the relative importance of the arguments they have collected.
While they may not be ‘dancing on a Sunday’, your students will appreciate the visual end task, which can readily be used as the basis for an exam style question if you’re feeling puritanical.
