This enquiry focuses on an important but often overlooked migrant group from the early modern period: the Roma Gypsies.
They faced such hostility as they migrated from the Punjab region of northern India to various places around the world, eventually arriving in England in the 1500s.
Students first categorise information according to the time period described, before plotting Roma Gypsy migrants on to a map: a challenging task that helps to develop students’ appreciation of the sheer scale and diversity of Roma Gypsy migrant communities.
Students deepen their understanding of the responses to Roma people in England by reading an extract from an historian’s book, before applying their knowledge an improving an exam-style response. A packed enquiry that develops both knowledge and skills!
