This enquiry serves as an introduction to the Migrants in Britain, c800-present Edexcel GCSE topic. It addresses the first specification point for the medieval period, ‘the context for migration’.
It helps students develop their understanding of the context of English society.
Your students will quickly gain lots of new knowledge about land, resources, towns and trade in the early Anglo-Saxon period, as well as the impact of Viking migrations on the organisation of land and kingdoms.
Finally, they apply their new knowledge to writing the ‘story of England’, before challenging a number of mistakes and misconceptions about the period. At the end of the enquiry, students will be well-equipped to dive in to the Migrants in Britain topic.
