This enquiry offers an overview of the topic of religion and belief during the industrial period.
It introduces students to a fairly provocative interpretation. The historian Trevor Ling thinks that the nineteenth century was the period of ‘greatest success’ for the Christian faith.
Students categorise evidence in order to decide the validity of the interpretation. Next, they write a response to the historian outlining their views.
Finally, the interpretation gets students thinking about how/why Ling might have reached his view, based on his own experiences: some really analytical work.
