Tudor history sometimes seems a little remote to GCSE students fresh from Year 9 and its traditional focus on the twentieth century.
This enquiry creates interest by focusing on the personal story and drama of Elizabeth’s turbulent early life. This informed her character and therefore perhaps influenced later aspects of her reign.
We believe that this topic provides a subtle and motivational twist on the traditional overview lesson.
This first lesson is an introduction to both Elizabeth as a person and the main themes of her reign (1558-1603). This enquiry helps set the scene for later themes and events in lessons. Your students will look at Elizabeth’s character and use her early life to see that it was shaped by her unique and somewhat turbulent up-bringing.
There is cutting and sticking, living graphs and tentative language to be played with in this engaging start to the course.
