This is the final lesson of four to focus on the medieval Mali Empire.
This lesson examines the empire’s slow but steady decline.
Students are first asked to speculate about the reasons for Mali’s decline – bearing in mind the strong foundations that had been laid by both Sundiata and Mansa Musa (the focus of previous enquiries).
Then, they engage with the views of various historians, summarising these arguments and supplementing them with explanation of their own.
Finally, students are given the creative end task of designing ‘word clouds’ for a museum exhibition on the decline of Mali, justifying their decisions about the relative size of the words/phrases they choose to include.
