Was Britain to blame for the Great Hunger – An Gorta Mor?
This enquiry into The Irish ‘Famine’ makes for an engaging and potentially controversial evidence based enquiry.
The students are introduced to the failure of the Irish potato crop in the 1840s by way of a listening and predicting activity.
They then grapple with a set of historical sources to work towards a conclusion as to who was to blame for the starvation of the Irish peasantry.
