This unit introduces your students to early European exploration and colonisation in the Americas.
It is structured around the big question:What impact did early European exploration and colonisation have on indigenous people? The focus is on consequences and on significance
Your students will assess the reputation of Christopher Columbus. They will then consider what the Aztec Empire was like before it was colonised.
They will analyse an amazing contemporary source to find out, how the Aztecs experienced early colonisation.
They will look at the impact of Spanish colonisation AND consider what the Spanish gained.
They will then turn their focus on England and consider why the English were initially slower than the Spanish to build and empire in this region.
They will also evaluate how far the Plymouth Colony was a success.
There is a great lesson on the Restoration.
