This enquiry introduces students to early Britain.
It encourages them to think about how historians and archaeologists are able to find out about life under the Celts.
Students firstreflect on what they know (or think they know!) about Celtic Britain.
Next they are introduced o Professor Alice Roberts’ claims about the difficulty of accessing Celtic history (‘The further you go back in time, the more history starts to fade’).
Students are then challenged to take on the role of archaeologists, as they encounter a range of ‘finds’ from archaeological digs.
They must work out what the objects are, before using them to make inferences about life in Celtic Britain.
Finally, students write letters to Alice Roberts, summing up what they have learnt about life under the Celts. The lesson serves as a good introduction to the unit on migration in early Britain.
