This enquiry focuses on the second case study of this part of the course: namely, ‘the experience of Jewish migrants in the East End of London in late nineteenth century’.
Students begin by finding out more about Aaron Lieberman, one of the Jewish people who settled in London in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Next, they consider evidence about responses to Jewish migrants in the East End more generally.
They are challenged to sum up the responses of the government, the established Jewish community and the local people to the influx of Jewish migrants who arrived at the end of the nineteenth century, before applying their new knowledge to an exam-style question.
