This enquiry broadens students’ understanding of migration in the medieval period, by exploring the experiences of various ‘denizens’ and ‘aliens’ from the time.
They will use tax records to delve into the stories of real people who arrived in England during this period. It is important to focus on case studies AND to focus on forgotten stories.
It also challenges students to make generalisations and inferences from these case studies about the experiences of migrants more broadly.
Finally, students apply their new knowledge to an exam-style question, using a template to help them address this tricky 16-marker.
