This big-picture lesson gives your class an overview of the course in one hour. You will introduce your class to the ‘contested West’ and the three main groups of people that will be studied.
Using a picture and caption match your students will identify the themes and then work out the story of each group. Placing the cards into chronological order will help them see this story over time.
They will consider the challenges faced by each group and finish by proving what they have learned with a ‘true/false’ plenary.
