Why was the Bloody Code abolished in the 1820s – 1830s?
This cracking enquiry is highly engaging and answers the above question by arming your students with all of the evidence and skills they need to write a speech arguing for the end of the BC.
To start with they use a fabulous print from Hogarth to see the issues surrounding public executions. They then work in groups to compete with each other to find the most reasons to explain ending of the Bloody Code.
Having grouped these ideas they are ready, with your help to write their speech. Of course teacher modelling comes in here to make the work even better.
