History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

Does Robespierre deserve the title ‘The Butcher of the Revolution’?

RobespierreThis lesson asks the students to work out why a plaque on Robespierre’s former home in Arras has been regularly vandalised.

Can they solve this mystery and work out whether or not Robespierre deserves the title ‘The Butcher of the Revolution.’

They end by showing their understanding by writing a more balanced wall plaque.

Having taught this great lesson over the years, it never fails to engage and stretch!
